Personal Protection Act Seminar Reminder, Real Life, Ugly Local Event & Stupid Criminals

Good evening Folks. Just a final reminder to mark October 1, 2005, on your calendars. Jon Gutmacher, author of 'Florida Firearms - Law, Use & Ownership,' will be the featured speaker at a free seminar held at Knight's from 10:00AM to 12:00PM regarding the "Protection of Persons & Property Act" that becomes effective on that date. It is recommended that you show up about 30 minutes early for parking. We are approaching 200 folks on the list for the seminar. Please give Knight Shooting Sports (727-546-4447) a call to put your name on the list -- or just show up! If you do attend, be sure to bring your Florida Firearms lawbook -- Jon will also be conducting a book signing! If you do not have a Fifth Edition book, don't worry -- we have plenty for sale! Light refreshments will be served. Please feel free to invite others who have an interest as well as any media and law enforcement friends that you have. Knight's will have some sale items available and I am going to offer an extra 20% discount off the sale price (red tag) on all in stock Coronado leather products Saturday, October 1, 2005. As usual, I am going to analyze some recent local events involving 'AM' (Arguments for Masturbation) scumbags that live in our area. See you at Knight's!   Tnx  Norm & Jane
PS -- Remember, if I may assist with either training or security concerns, please give me a call or drop me a note! Real Life Event

Hi Major-Again thank you for your great class. Here is a recap of my self defense experience. On July XX, 19XX, I had fallen asleep on the couch and was awakened at 3:05AM by the sound of someone on my front porch.   It sounded like the person was trying to use a crowbar to force open the door.   I turned on the living room and front porch light and yelled that I had a gun and would shoot.  I then ran to my bedroom and retrieved my loaded 45.   At this point the person had succeeded in breaking the lock and was in the final process of entering my home apparently undaunted by the fact that I had turned on the inside and outside lights. An African-American male opened the front door with his left hand and stepped into my home with a pistol in his right hand. I shot him one time with the bullet hitting him in the base of the neck (Center Line Hit -- devastating!   NB). He immediately dropped straight to the floor.  I advanced across the living room and kicked the gun that was still in his hand away from him.  I was struck by the fact that the look of contempt he had on his face as he entered my house never changed. I called 911 and waited for the police (Armed Historians -- NB) to arrive. The police listened to my story and kind of apologized for the fact that they would have to arrest me (Told You That Would Probably Happen -- NB). On the way to the police station both officers gave me advice on what to say and what not to say about how the shooting had taken place. The man that broke into my home that night was Edward Jxxxxxxxxx, age 32.  I understand that he had two full pages of arrests for violent crimes. He never broke into another home and I did not have charges brought against me.   Mark Xxxxxxxxx

After Thoughts

Norm, the event itself will always be crystal clear in my memory (it literally could have happened yesterday) but the specifics with the police have dimmed a little over the 22 years.   But as I said before the police questioned me at my home and said that it was standard for me to have to go into the police station to be questioned further.   I do not even remember them reading me my rights although they might have but I do remember that they did not cuff me.   Anyway, they told me on the ride to the station to say things like "I felt that my life was threatened, and that I had yelled a warning before firing (even though I had told them that I had not yelled a warning)."  Once at the station I was left in a detectives office for what seemed a couple of hours and was finally taken to what looked to be a conference room with original officers and two detectives.   I then retold my story and answered questions from all four about how the shooting took place.   This lasted for about an hour after which they left me in the room for a while and finally one of the two original officers came back and offered me a ride home.   On the ride home the officer told me about the extensive career that
Mr. Jxxxxxxxx had amassed and suggested that I decline to speak to the media.   I don't know if there was just less litigation 22 years ago, or if (my state) is more personal protection friendly, or if I was just lucky, but I was never brought up on civil or criminal charges for the shooting.   As for the psychological/emotional effects for myself and my family- I feel that the fact that the event was so straight forward (hesitation would have meant my life) that I have been spared any kind of emotional effects and my parents certainly agree.   Thanks again for the class Norm.

Ugly Local Event
"Intruder rapes, robs Dunedin woman, 87" St. Petersburg Times September 21, 2005

I am sure that you understand and feel the same way that crimes against children, handicapped and the elderly really piss me off! I consider those types of animals the best damn arguments for masturbation (BDAM) imaginable due to the fact that they have absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. This dastardly crime occurred about 10:30AM in the woman's home. She was watering plants in the front yard and then went inside. She realized that she left the garage door open for a few moments and then turned to close the garage door. As she was walking from the living room to the garage, a miserable scumbag coward grabbed her from behind, cupped his hand over her eyes and mouth and pushed her toward the bedroom. The helpless victim fell and was then blindfolded with a pair of her own pants, dragged into the bedroom by her ankles while being punched in the back, had her hands tied to the bed by rope and then raped. The scumbag, who was armed with a knife, then stole $35 from her purse and fled. The elderly victim was not able to free herself until 1:54PM. Immediately after so doing, she called 911 to report the attack. According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, there have been no reports of similar attacks and there are no known witnesses.
Dadgum it, you should be able to leave an open door for a few minutes without becoming the victim of a violent rapist! On the other hand, my analysis of 350 residential burglaries in Clearwater revealed that:
       1. Most residential burglaries occur between 8AM -- 4PM (185 or 52.86%) -- the residents are away from home  engaged in normal daytime activities and functions!
       2. Almost half (169 or 48.29%) of the burglars entered through an unlocked door, window, garage or slider -- the  majority of burglars will select the easiest, quickest and most quiet entry. If force is used, the 'burglar tools' will be  common yard or household items found at the scene of the crime. Burglars do not like to have burglar tools on or  about their person for obvious reasons!
       3. Glass was defeated in many instances (69 or 38.12%) in those residences where force was used to gain entry -- glass is always the weakest part of a locked home or business. Mylar fixes that problem at a reasonable price as well as serving as excellent retro fit solution for hurricanes and unexpected storms!
       4. More than one-quarter (97 or 27.71%) of the homes were either occupied at the time of the entry or the  resident(s) returned home while the burglary was in progress -- I define 'good' burglars as those that are interested in  property and either choose another target or flee immediately if the target is occupied or becomes occupied while  'bad' burglars are those that don't care if occupied and I consider to be targeting the occupants rather than their  property!
        5. Nearly 10.0% (29 or 8.29%) of the burglars either brought weapons with them or armed themselves after entry -- this is a scumbag that you should respect and fear because if he is stupid enough, brazen enough, crazy enough or  so high on mind altering substances or any combination thereof that he ignores the fact that Armed Burglary is a Capital Offense, he might be willing to use that weapon!
         6. Ten (2.86%) of the burglaries involved some type of sexual attack or overtone -- I don't believe that all  burglaries with sexual overtones were specifically planned that way but occurred more as a crime of opportunity!
         7. Persons known to be either workers or visitors (21 or 6.00%) committed these burglaries -- I  feel that there are more of this type burglary than reported simply because the scumbags were not identified!
         8. Stinking burglars are prototypical scumbag cockroaches as demonstrated when the home intrusion alarm was   activated (3 or 0.86%86%) and the little insects broke off their forced entry attempt and fled back to whatever cesspool or  slimy rock they called home!

Please remember these old United States Army Infantry credos:
             1. You protect from the outside in and defend from the inside out -- slow them down by layering your passive defenses, hardening the target and buy the time you need to gather your family, arm yourself and get law enforcement enroute. Of course, you will have to make sure your family stays alive long enough to be "rescued" by law enforcement!
             2. It is easier to keep them out then to throw them out -- based on my combat experience, you may have to eject some piece of human waste that doesn't want to leave. You now have a real problem!

Please feel free to give me a call if I may assist! I simply do not want to go to any more crime scenes. Twenty-five years of that crap culminating in the tragedy next door is enough already!

Stupid Criminals

I must admit that I continue to be encouraged every time I read about some lame-brained, half-witted self-proclaimed criminal genius who is too stupid to pour urine out of a boot! I found this in the October 2005 edition of Reader's Digest. This was reported in the Amarillo Globe-News. Two men stood accused of assaulting and robbing a woman. During the trial, the woman who was testifying in front of the jury was asked by the district attorney "Are the two perpetrators of this terrible crime present in the courtroom today?" Before she could answer, both defendants raised their hands and stated "Here, Your Honor." So much for innocent until proven guilty. That was more like innocent until proven stupid! Here's your sign! Then we find these two Illinois nitwits, as reported in the September 28 to October 4, 2005, edition of the Weekly Planet. These two rocket scientists "allegedly" burglarized a home in August 2005 and then built a website, complete with photos of the stolen property and their contact information so they could sell the loot. These morons couldn't even find the boot!
