Good evening Folks. Just a quick note to answer a questions posed by Tony, a fellow student. Tony just received his CWP and wanted to know if he could carry his concealed weapon on his person in the car with his newly received CWP. The answer in the short version is YES! Let's do a quick review of the rules for carry in the car. Please refer to pages 66 through 73, "Florida Firearms Law, Use & Ownership", Chapter Six "Legal Carrying and Transportation" starting with "Automobiles & Other Private Vehicles". The weapon must be either "securely encased" or "not readily accessible for immediate use". The key point is that the weapon "can't be on your person
unless you have a Concealed Weapons permit"! If you do not have a CWP, you are violating the law and can be arrested (See Pg 69) if the weapon is "concealed on or about your person "even if "securely encased". Please feel free to send me an Email if still unsure. Hope this helps. If you do not have one of Jon's books, please advise. You can order by mail--you really do need to have it!
As a personal note, Jane and I recently attended the Memorial Service for nine-month old Blake, apparently murdered last week by a scumbag disguised as a babysitter. The one thing absolutely stressed by the grieving and shocked family is simply this: Know who is watching and caring for your children and grandchildren!!! Check them out, demand and then call their references, check with the police, call the babysitter's previous employers and current employment, drop in to check unexpectedly, put in
hidden cameras and recorders, hire private detectives, meet their children and gauge how they react to the sitter, inspect your children for any signs of abuse and
their reaction to the babysitter, WHATEVER IT TAKES!!!! I never want to have to do that again. It tore our hearts out!!!!
