Stay Safe Street Tip #50
5/15/03 LOK
6/1/03 Sadie Hawkins & Assorted Ugliness
Good morning Folks. Jane & I hope that all are well and staying safe. It looks like there is another round of Al Quaida violence starting in a big way. The death toll, to include Americans, in yesterday's bombings in Saudi Arabia is about 10. Just stay on your toes folks. It seems that our problems in this country are preceded by terror attacks overseas. The June 1, 2003, Sadie Hawkins event appears to be very timely. Details on that program as well as the May 15, 2003, LOK meeting will be in this email. I also want to announce that I plan to retire June 1, 2003, from Clearwater Police Department due to chronic injuries. I leave with great regret tempered by the satisfaction that I was a good cop, served the city and citizens well and met a lot of excellent, dedicated and effective men and women that I consider to be my friends as well as brothers and sisters in blue. Besides, I had a ball! It will be tough not looking forward to playing "John" and cops & robbers! See you at Knight's! Norm
Assorted Ugliness
1. I wrote a few months ago about 200 pound, 16-year-old Richard Washington who
committed a strong-arm robbery of a 63-year-old man and then without cause,
pushed the older and smaller man violently causing his death 21 days later. This
scumbag, who only completed 8th grade and had an extensive record as a juvenile
for some misdemeanor arrests, alcohol and drug use, gang membership and auto
burglary, was sentenced to "... 25 years for fatal push" according to the May
13, 2003, edition of the St. Pete Times. Absolutely amazing -- the Circuit Court
judge who sentenced this violent scumbag seemed to feel sympathy for the
teenaged killer and urged him to keep writing her and pledged to write him back!
Of course, Washington was getting his life together by taking classes and
studying hard in jail! Why not -- that choice was made for him. She should feel
better though because this killer scumbag should be out in 18 years! I can't
help but wonder how long the sentence is for the victim? A lot longer than 18
years I'll bet!
2. Thirty-eight-year old Maurice Brown of South St. Pete, according to the May
12, 2003 edition of the St. Pete Times, lured an 8-year-old girl from her yard
at 10AM, drove her to an abandoned house several blocks away and then sexually
battered her. Several children reported the kidnapping and gave a description of
the car that allowed the scumbag to be arrested about 30 minutes later but too
late to prevent the rape. Brown was charged with kidnapping and three counts of
sexual battery as well as outstanding warrants from Pennsylvania and New York.
This apparently occurred Sunday morning, May 11. Where were the child's parents?
It is really disconcerting to know that you basically cannot even allow your
child to play in the front yard without fear that the child will be the victim
of some animal. Fortunately, the victim was not seriously injured but will
definitely have trauma issues. We should tell him to try and appear before
Washington's judge -- she may feel sorry for him also! Please watch your kids
folks -- if you don't, someone else may! Please don't forget that Knight's has
excellent children's identification kits available as a public service item. No
doubt, scumbags are out there!
3. Speaking of scumbags, I was at Knight's May 8. Two ladies walked in and I was
directed to them. One of the ladies had been married to this man for five years.
Approximately 30 days ago she discovered that he was using crack cocaine. He
became upset with her, turned into a major scumbag and assaulted her with a
knife. She avoided injury, reported it to the police and had a restraining order
put in place. On May 7 at 7AM, she was walking her dog at the home that they had
shared. A good, courageous friend of hers just happened to be in the yard at the
same time. The scumbag, who outweighs the wife by at least 80 pounds and is a
foot taller, started walking towards her. The wife told him that he should not
be there. The friend walked between them and told him that she was calling the
police and went inside to do so. This brave, "he-ro", approached to within four
feet of the wife, pulled out a kitchen knife from behind his back and stabbed
her in the arm and back and then ran away. This scumbag is such a moroon (double
moron) in my opinion he couldn't even figure out how to select a proper tool to
seriously injure her! The thin bladed and flimsy knife hit a bone in the center
of her back and folded up. I immediately enrolled them in the academic class
that day. As we were in class, she received numerous phone calls from numbnuts
advising her that it was all her fault that he tried to kill her! Nice guy. He
finally turned himself in on Saturday after numerous efforts to make her feel
guilty! I gave them both advice that they were at risk before the arrest and
still at risk after the arrest because he had more than enough time to lineup
some other crackhead POS to remove the best witnesses against him. Remember,
Jane & I went through that seven months after my neighbor's murder (see Tip #24)
in May 2001 when this coldblooded & heartless POS tried to hire a hitman to kill
the wife and daughter. The moral of the story is that restraining orders are
great if the subject chooses to obey the court order. There are no guarantees --
violations almost seem to be the norm in these matters. If you have such an
order now or need one in the future, please be aware that they only work if the
scumbag chooses to comply! Be alert and very careful, change routines and
patterns and develop a good case of paranoia. Remember the rule -- just because
you are paranoid, it doesn't mean that they really aren't out to get you!
Good morning Ladies. I am attaching the original email with a few updated items.
Please bring folding chairs for the 6/1/03 Sadie Hawkins. Also note that the
best way for drinks for the Sadie Hawkins is probably the coke machine at
Knight's. The cost is $7.50 (includes seminar, eyes & ears, range fee & machine
gun rental) per person for the 6/1/03 Sadie Hawkins. Ammunition is additional,
at the 10% LOK discount of course, and based on what you want to shoot. Please
advise of what you will be bringing for the Pot Luck. Jane and I will be
bringing a big bucket of fried chicken. Use your imagination -- the more diverse
selections the better. See you on the 15th and the 1st! Tnx Norm & Jane
5/15/03 LOK & Sadie Hawkins Day
Good morning Ladies. The April meeting completed our terrorism series. All
seemed to enjoy Wayne's presentation even though the attendance was a little
lower than usual. We have discussed a Sadie Hawkin's type event with all three
primary speakers, as well as other Knight associates with counterterrorist
experience, returning for a two hour question and answer session combined with a
pot luck dinner and a machine-gun shoot. I must admit that the guy's whining
about missing the seminars has been annoying! (Just kidding!) It appears that
June 1, 2003, a Sunday evening, will work. We are planning the potluck from 4PM
thru 5:30PM, seminar from 5:30 to 7:30 PM and then firing from 7:30 to 9:30PM.
The cost for the seminars would be $7.50 per person plus ammunition. For this
event, Knight's will break out the heavier caliber machine-guns as well as the
9MM's. Please advise if interested so that we may finalize our plans. Here is
the information for the May 15, 2003, Ladies of the Knight meeting. Jane and I
hope to see you all there! Stay Safe and Alert
my friends

For the May 15, 2003 meeting:
a. Registration will be in the classroom from 6 - 7PM. Light
refreshments will be served. In addition, Heather from Body & Sole Spa will be
doing free chair massages again. Please note that tipping Heather is not
mandatory but should be and is sincerely appreciated!
b. The seminar will then be conducted from 7 - 8PM. Captain Jon Cox
will be our featured speaker for the evening. Jon is the Executive Air Safety
Chairman for the Airline Pilots Association. He has formerly served as Executive
Air Safety Vice Chairman, Central Air Safety Chairman at US Airways, Accident
Investigation Board member and Airworthiness and Performance Committee member.
Jon, of course, will be speaking on Air Safety, a major concern after 9-11-01.
He is also a shooter and hopes to be soon enrolled in the armed pilot's training
program.
c. The firing portion from 8 - 9:30PM will feature .410, 12 gauge
and 20 gauge shotguns using hip shooting techniques with buckshot. You may also
bring your own shotguns if you have one. Each shooter will have the choice of
the number of rounds as well as the type of gun. The technique you will use is
definitely an excellent self-defense technique and less punishing than point
shoulder. This will be a great opportunity to test fire the three major calibers
against close range bad guy targets. The total cost for the ladies shooting the
shotguns will be $10.00 plus ammunition. You may select any combination in
multiples of five. The various ammunition costs per 5 rounds of each, to include
tax and LOK discount, are .410 ($3.18), 12 gauge ($3.84) and 20 gauge ($3.84).
Please note that ammunition must be purchased at Knight's either before or
during the event. If you need to use a range gun, that will be included in the
basic $10.00 cost. In addition, the retail store will again be open for your
shopping pleasure -- remember, as LOK members, you receive 10% off all regular
priced items in the store except firearms & range time. Jane will be available
to answer all questions about Coronado Leather products (already on sale) and
accept special orders. Incidentally, both Knight's and I offer Gift Certificates
for all of our products and services!
d. The total cost for the evening will depend on what you shoot. If
you just wish to attend the social and seminar portion, the cost is $10.00.
Please be advised that we will not be accepting deposits in advance! Please call
Knight's (727-546-4447) or yours truly (727-535-9151 or 515-1317) or send me an
email to advise that you will attend. See you at Knight's!
