Newsletter #1– Home Invasion & Window Protection

Good evening all. Hope everyone is staying safe and well. This letter may be a little early this month and also in a different format. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, comments, want to be added to the vendor list, want to be removed from the mailing list or just want to say hello. I was reading the St Pete Times this morning and found myself really angry by the lead article in the Clearwater Times section of the 4/11/00 paper. The headline reads

Home Intruder Shoots High Point Woman

A 48 year old lady by the name of Kimberley was alone at home at 7:30AM. Her husband had left for work and she was preparing for work. Her home is just west of the Clearwater/St Pete Airport in a nice quiet subdivision. She was confronted by a masked burglar and became involved in a struggle with the Armed Home Invader (stopped being a burglary when he confronted her). During the struggle the Scumbag shot her through her right hand with the bullet lodging in her face and skull. The house is apparently rather secluded and the alarm system was not engaged. There were no signs of forced entry. It is apparent that the Scumbag either entered through an unlocked door or was granted entrance by the victim. The Home Invader fled only taking a purse. Kimberley is in serious but stable condition at Bayfront Medical center. What upsets me is that the attack was probably absolutely preventable by a few simple means that I stress in both the Basic w/Defensive Tactics Course (2nd Saturday each month) and Safe Streets Seminars. Those points are simply keep doors & windows locked and don't let strangers in your house! Keeping doors & windows locked also applies directly to your cars! Hope she is going to be okay but I'll just about guarantee her peace of mind has been destroyed.

As a matter of fact, our class teachings may have saved a student's sister from becoming either a rape victim and/or a homicide victim. Harry's sister missed a scheduled class but her brother relayed advice about intrusions. Sure enough Harry was out of town and his sister was house-sitting in his Dunedin home. One evening two guys tried a front door entry approximately 9:30PM but the sister stayed quiet & they left. The next night she arrived home approximately 9:30PM and as she closed & locked the front door, she heard voices in the backyard and a block was thrown through the sliding glass door window. She immediately obtained Harry's .357 Magnum, took a covered and concealed position at a hard point and advised the two white males, who were entering through the breach, in terms that were quite clear, that their continued approach would result in "shots fired". Being smarter than the average scumbags, they ran like Hell. She was uninjured though shaken. A search by the Sheriff's Office resulted in ID of two possible suspects. She will attend the May 13 class!

However, I do have some good news. A man by the name of Tony Davis attended the 4/8/00 Basic Class. During the day Tony advised that he is the owner of Glass Protection Services, Inc in St Pete and has been for the last eight years. Tony has the records to prove that he has done extensive work for Federal, State & County governments. The mylar window film is quite impressive. We took turns beating a section of sliding glass door with a bat to no effect. Jane & I invited Tony to our home 4/9/00 and had an interesting two hours. Tony is an expert and actually pointed out several major faults in our home and made excellent recommendations for "target hardening" from both a natural and scumbag disaster viewpoint. I am having some glass replaced with tempered glass within the next few days and then Tony's crew will do all our glass with the window film treatment. We checked with USAA and will qualify for a major discount when all our glass is covered. Based on previous research, Tony's prices are very reasonable and all work comes with a lifetime warranty for as long as you own the home. In addition, Tony will give all GW Belson students a 10% discount on the total amount. His telephone number is 727-530-1992. Tell him Norm sent you! You should see the data on attempts to penetrate the product with gunfire!! I'm impressed (and I am a cynic)!!!! Tony has been invited to make a presentation at every Basic With Defensive Tactics course.

Well, that's it for now. Stay Safe!!!!

Tip of the Month:  Cor-bon ammunition is very highly rated for most self defense purposes in most major calibers. Glazer Safety Slugs and Mag Safe are similarly rated for home defense! Please call me if any questions. I have the reports.
