    Good morning folks. This "Shots Fired & Stupid Discharges" update will draw a distinction between what I consider effective responses to heinous crimes of violence and less than effective responses. Please do not consider any of the comparisons to be an invitation or a solicitation to become a vigilante! Far from it -- you understand my base philosophy is simply this - It is easier to avoid it than to extricate yourself from it! Your actions in all situations must be reasonable, prudent, necessary and justifiable when judged by others at their leisure under vastly different circumstances! We, as good citizens, must always remain aware that we have the burden of good citizens and be sure that our actions, even in live armed encounters, do not precipitate the event and always be concerned for the safety of innocents by maintaining a safe and adequate backstop to preclude collateral damage. Of course, hindsight is always 20-20 isn't it? Before we start, a word of advice - please do not ever support the governmental registration of firearms because that has always been the first step by government to seize the firearms of good citizens as occurred in Canada, the UK and Australia as well as Germany and Russia under the benevolent guidance of Hitler and Stalin respectively!  Norm

Alleged rapist done in at barbecue --  July 18, 2007

       A mother and her son were having a barbecue in Garland, Texas.  They heard a young boy, who turned out to be seven years old, screaming for help. They located the boy who was being sexually battered by a 17-year-old scumbag. The son dragged him off the child and started beating the crap out of the bad guy. The mother joined in with the only device she had handy -- a big meat fork. Of course, she stuck him where it would get his total attention - right in the butt. Of course, the police 'grilled' him when the scumbag arrived at the police station! Please compare that response to the response of the two female witnesses to the sexual battery that happened at 9PM in Lassing Park in St. Petersburg in January 2007. The first witness heard the victim screaming and watched her abduction by a much larger male. As this 16-year-old rapist was dragging the victim into an alley, the first witness yelled "I'll help you. I'm calling 911!" The second witness reported that she could hear the victim screaming as she was raped. Of course, by the time the police arrived, the heinous crime had been committed and the attacker gone!

     Two career criminals, both on parole, broke into a prominent doctor's home in Cheshire, Connecticut. The home was occupied by the 50-year-old doctor, his 48-year-old wife and two daughters, ages 17 and 11. They forced a hostage to withdraw money from a local bank, committed sexual assaults, killed the three females and tried to kill the doctor. Then to cover the crime, they torched the house. The police later captured the suspects who were driving the family's SUV. The simple fact, in my opinion, is that the doctor failed to protect his family and will now have to live with that failure for the rest of his life. Compare that event with one that occurred in Montana May 2, 2007. According to a July 26, 2007 AOL article, 'Well Trained At An Early Age', two Mexican ILLEGAL ALIENS waited until the 11-year's-old father left the family home and committed an armed burglary. The girl, a clay shooting champion, was upstairs when she heard the scumbags make entry. She armed herself with her dad's 12 Gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun and waited at the top of the stairs. The 23-year-old ILLEGAL was first up the stairs and caught a fatal dose of buckshot at close range which destroyed his abdomen and genitals. Of course, being dead he no longer needed his genitals anyway! The 26-year-old ILLEGAL took a blast of buckshot to his left shoulder and then bled to death in the street. The ILLEGALS were armed with a .45 caliber handgun stolen from an earlier burglary that resulted in the stabbing death of a 50-year-old man.  

    Folks, please never forget that life is come as you are! The simple fact is that if you are confronted by a violent offender or offenders, you may only rely on your previous training, education and experience, your on hand weapons and your current level of physical conditioning. I am also a firm advocate of the old Infantry principles in regard to home and business defense -- you protect from the outside in and defend from the inside out! Your primary objectives are to slow the attack (good locks and doors combined with motion sensor security lighting), announce the attack (alarm system), canalize the attack (make them come to you) and then defend your home from your safe room (usually master bedroom). I can assist in regard to all areas to include, Mylar Glass Guard for your windows, effective locks, the high tech Challenger alarm system and your training. The results of failure to protect your self and family can be catastrophic. Unfortunately, Jane and I know this from bitter personal experience on May 22, 2001. That was the event that changed my actual job description as a police officer from 'To Protect and Serve' to 'Armed Historian'! Finally, do not ever forget that the world is full of scumbags!
